Welcome to Glasgay! 2002 -  Glasgay 2002 will see Scottish artists joined by the best gay artists from as far afield as London, New York, Rio de Janeiro, San Francisco and Sydney. Plans are also already underway for Glasgay’s tenth anniversary year in 2003. Over the years, Glasgay has attracted prominent artists and companies such as DV8, Neil Bartlett, Split Britches, 7:84 theatre company, Ursula Martinez, Gay Sweatshop, Amy Lame, Helena Goldwater, Split Britches, Starving Artists, Pierre et Giles and Robert Mapplethorpe.

Last year Glasgay saw high audience numbers at a wide variety events. Visual art events proved the most popular with a staggering 72,000 people visiting the Gallery of Modern Art for the three-month long Typical Men exhibition. Other visual art events saw an attendance of over 3000 within the 10 days of the festival. Live theatre and comedy also proved very popular. Many events sold out, such as Ursula Martinez at The Tron Theatre and Scott Capurro at The Stand. During the ten days of the festival, a total of over 2000 tickets were sold for live events. An estimated 20% of audience came from outside of Scotland. London, Manchester and Brighton were the most common places, but with some audiences coming from Dublin, Paris and New York.

2002 sees Glasgay undertake a large scale audience development survey with the help of the Scottish Arts Council. This will give Glasgay hard facts about quite who comes to the festival and why!
