Glasgay! 2005

20th October - 20th November

Welcome to Glasgay! 2005 -  What a year! Having settled into our new home at the Q! gallery (Scotland's first visual arts space dedicated to queer art and artists) in Glasgow's historic Saltmarket area, we are now ready to announce Glasgay 2005! This year's festival is proud to be associated with Gaydar, our headline sponsor, and with increased public funding is bigger than ever with over two hundred events at sixteen venues across the city.

This year there's everything from cuddling to boxing to gay weddings on the agenda...

THe extended autumn season opens with visual art at the shiny new Q! gallery. First up is the brighton hot queer collective Popchoc, followed by Christopher Bowen and his renowned Bodyshots, and then Cock Tails, an exhibition by Scottish Cartoon Art Studio and Healthy Gay Scotland.

Large scale productions this year include Citizen's Theatre Company in the dark and richly funny Whatever Happened to Baby Jane - The Chamber Musical, as well as our first commission, with Glasgow's Tangerine Productions preforming Manuel Puig's Kiss of The Spiderwoman. Theatre Royal bring us The Royal National Theatre in Alan Bennett's The History Boys, and at Tramway we witness Earthfall at their most extreme, with live music, film and breathtaking choreography in At Swim Two Boys.

We're always delighted to welcome back aritist who have had a long association with the festival. USA's Annie Sprinkle & Beth Stephens return to CCA with a celebration of love as art in Post Porn Love - a red wedding for all! And Scotland's own Carol Laula returns to the Concert Hall with the world premiere of her new album Kitchen Stories.

Our film programme at CCA & GFT has also grown and you can expect everything from Cowboys & Angels to 70’s icons Klaus Nomi and That Man Peter Berlin to kick boxing legend Michelle Arboro, New York’s outrageous cabaret act Kiki & Herb, the hilarious take off The D Word and Australia’s own Stonewall story The Tasty Bust Reunion as well as the 20th anniversary screening of My Beautiful Laundrette and much more.

Clubbers will be delighted with a stellar line up this year and we are delighted to play host to celebrity Marc Almond to kick of the season.  We celebrate Utter Gutter’s 1st birthday at the Riverside Club as well as a one-off Utter Gutter special with The Flying Matchstick Men; the return of Burly’s sell-out Carnival of Sin; 1 in 10 and the Arches celebrate three years of Death Disco.  We will also stage A Bright Young Things Ball on Guy Fawkes with the Stephen Duffy Orchestra and The Belle Star Ceildih Band.

Our comedy programme has well known names such as Pam Ann, the quintessential airhostess plus Scott Capurro and Topping & Butch.  Our performance programme sees the return of Adrian Howells in the final part of his Domestic Trilogy Salon: Adrienne; plus Random Accomplice’s Johnny McKnight appears in his solo show Little Johnny’s Big Gay Adventure and Norway’s Mr Helium & The Holy Gliders bring us The Fairground Syndrome. Enjoy!
