Glasgay! 2009

8th October - 8th November

Glasgay! Film Festival 3rd September - 11th October

Welcome to Glasgay! 2009 -  This year we celebrate alll things Family and Feminine. From Trapped lovers to mothers on the verge, Hollywood legends, old queens, ramdom storks, trangendered goddesses and ginger stereotypes.

In a cutting edge, popular and political programme we explode some dark demons and fragile egos, look at troubled teenagers and intergration. Through music and song we celebrate cell block divas, dancing queens, the roaring twenties and classic pulp fiction. We've got darkly seductive dance theatre, torch song singers, even Peter Tatchell talks. Our visual arts programme includes work from the Glasgow Gallery of Modern Art's acclaimed sh[OUT] exhibition where artists explore intimacy, disclosure, and health and wellbeing. The Tall Ship at Glasgow Harbour brings us the cheeky campness of Hello Sailor! and the history of gay life on the ocean wave.

Start your festival early with the Glasgay! Film Festival. Bursting on to your screens a whole month early, there are 12 tempting titles, opening with Shank - a gritty, dystopic vision of British youth, gang violence and seedy, straight boy love. Contrast that to life and sexual politics in France in Born in '68, a fairytale of left wing hippydom. Nighthawks, a classic from 1978, will transport you back to the heyday of disco, crusing and flares. We flit across the world this year with mysterious love stories set in hamberg, Taipei and Louisiana; teenage runaways from the Czech Republic; tragic reality TV heros from MTV's Real World; and well-healed Parisian's struggles with surrogacy and adoption. We end our exploration of the contemporary family with the heartwarming Patrick 1.5 set in a perfect house in the nice Swedish surburbs, with a solid relationship, a home full of love and warmth - you'd think - if it wasn't for the little mistake someone made at the adoption agency. A decimal point had been misplaced and a 15 year old homophobe with a criminal past shows up. Such is life!

With a special Halloween celildh, club nights, comedy and so much more Glasgay! has never been so relevent - come along and join us in this magical city of festivals. Enjoy!
