Glasgay seeks work in various artforms such as live performances from theatre-makers, musicians, dance artists and comedians/cabaret/vaudeville acts. We also seek work from visual artists for exhibition and features and shorts from film and video-makers. We are also interested in hearing from playwrights, poets and other writers who may have work suitable for stage adaptation.
FILM
We seek full length feature and short films for presentation at Glasgow Film Theatre, CCA and other cinemas. Preview copies should be sent in DVD format only (PAL or NTSC). We cannot accept preview copies in any other format although other formats are available for public screening.
PROGRAMME
Our programme is curated and selected mainly by the Producer, Steven Thomson. On certain occasions it is also selected by our partners at host venues such as The Stand Comedy Club or Glasgow Film Theatre.
COMMISSIONING
The festival also commissions new theatrical work mainly from artists living and working in Scotland. Commissions are planned at least eighteen months ahead and are often presented in co-production with major venues in Glasgow. Commissioned work is by invitation only.
SELECTION CRITERIA (for performance work only)
- The work should feature lesbian, gay, bi-sexual or transgender artists. (LGBT)
- The artist/production company should be recognised professionals and provide an appropriate portfolio of work, press cuttings and reviews, photographs and CD/DVD/VHS documentation of work.
- The work should contain either lesbian, gay, bi-sexual or transgender themes or be of interest to an LGBT audience.
- The work can focus either very heavily on LGBT or be more abstract.
- We specifically seek new work that is either a UK or European premiere.
- We will often not consider work if it is being shown in the same year at the Edinburgh Festival.
- Artists who have appeared at previous Glasgay! festivals are only considered for repeat visits if they have created new work.
It is helpful if you state on your submission which of these criteria your work meets.
PRESENTATION OF TOURING PERFORMANCE WORK
- Touring work should be ready-made work, i.e. work that has already been presented in other venues and can be easily toured/transported.
- Artists are expected to support their own production costs i.e. set, rehearsals, costumes, special lighting or sound effects, transport of set and technical operators.
- We, or our partners venues, can offer fees or splits of box office income, modest accommodation and budget travel costs.
- We provide the venue with technical supervision to oversee your get-in/fit-up.
